The Best Low-Acid Coffee Beans

Low-acid coffee is a brew that has been grown, roasted, and/or prepared in such a way as to lower it’s … (say it with me) … acidity. Normal coffee hits the pH scale at about 5, which is a bit much for some people with acid reflux, sensitive stomachs, or dental issues, so low-acid coffee beans can help.

The biggest factor to reducing that acidity is getting the right beans, andβ€”fortunately for sensitive tummiesβ€”there are lots of options on the market. If you’re thinking about giving it a try, check out these guys.

1. Lifeboost Coffee

Lifeboost Coffee is uniquely “doctor-crafted, clean” coffee, founded by Dr. Charles Livingston. The site is rife with other doctor endorsements as well.

Lifeboost has a patented “TrustPure” process for growing and roasting coffee beans to make them as healthy as possible. Their low-acid coffee is organic, non-GMO, and free from pesticides and 450 different mycotoxins.

3. Java Planet Organic Coffee

Java Planet isn’t exclusively low-acid coffee, but they do have several low-acid options. They’re picky about their beans and the brand focus lies heavily on sustainability. Java Planet was the first time I saw the Bird Friendly Coffee certification. It’s a sustainability promise that goes beyond just organic growing and counting trees. Bonus points.

4. Tieman’s Fusion Coffee

Tieman’s Coffee is a different experience, but too good not to mention. Tieman’s blends 100% Arabica coffee beans with matcha green tea, rooibos red tea, and goji berries. It’s a unique flavored coffee and they have four low-acid blends available. The fusion of teas and berries with low-acid coffee reduces acidity but also adds a boatload of additional antioxidants (and flavors).

5. Volcanica Low Acid Coffee

Volcanica Coffee is a big dealer in beans. They carry 150+ varieties from all over the world, including 25 varieties of low-acid coffee. (They’re not all labeled ‘low-acid’ which is confusing, but the website sorts those with the higher pH levels.) Volcanica highlights their sustainably sourced beans and their partnership with the non-profit Charity:Water.
