Horchata Coffee Recipe
Horchata coffee is an iced coffee treat perfect for steamy summer months. I’m not saying you have to serve it with breakfast tacos … but more people will probably like you if you do.
What is horchata coffee?
Horchata coffee is a blend of rice, almonds, and sweetener to mimic the flavor of Mexican horchata, added to an iced coffee. See also: A revelation.
How to make horchata coffee
There are a few different recipes out there, but here’s the simple version (for two people … or you and your second glass … I won’t tell).
Ingredients
- 1/2 C uncooked white rice
- 1 C water
- 1/4 C raw almonds
- 8 oz brewed coffee
- 1-1/2 tsp brown sugar
- 1 cinnamon sticks (plus additional for garnish, if desired)
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- Ice
Steps
- (Optional) Combine rice, water, almonds, coffee, sugar, cinnamon stick, and vanilla. Mix well, cover, and let it sit in the fridge overnight.
- Transfer the mixture to your blender (or mix it together in the blender, if you didn’t do it the night before). Blend until it’s fairly smooth—about 2 minutes.
- Let it rest in the blender for 30 seconds or so. There will be some solids that will sink to the bottom.
- Pour through a cheesecloth or fine strainer and serve over ice!
If you’re planning ahead, that optional step to let the flavors all come together is really nice. But if you’re craving a good iced horchata on a warm afternoon, you can skip it.
Can you put horchata in coffee?
